BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Persons regarded as food heroes on St. Kitts were recognised at the recent opening ceremony of the Afri-Caribbean Investment Summit in Abuja, Nigeria.
Crop Farmer of the Year, Ms Denise Gillard; Livestock Farmer, Devin Richardson and Fisher of the Year, Mervin Maynard, are regarded among the true backbone of the nation’s agricultural food providers.
“These are the men and women who feed our people, sustain our economies, and carry our future. In a moment defined by the fierce urgency of now, the message was clear — agriculture is not just about production, it is about people,” said Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Samal Duggins.
He said in building stronger connections between Africa and the Caribbean, “our farmers and fishers must remain at the centre of that future. Because when we support them, we secure our future.”
