Top Players and Teams Receive Awards in Primary School Competition

Immediately following the conclusion of the Runako Morton/TDC sponsored Primary Schools’ Cricket tournament finals, on Friday 13th July, an impressive closing ceremony was held.

The ceremony was ably chaired by Sports officer, Mr. ae Newton and among those addressing the gathering were the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Kevin Barrett, who warmly congratulated the two teams that starred in the finals and their coaches.

He also had warm words of commendation for Mr. Jamir Claxton and his team at the Youth and Sports Department and sponsors, TDC.

Miss Kesha Jones, the TDC representative, noted that she was impressed not only with the match but also with the opening ceremony, which she considered a replica of what is to be expected on the international stage. She also congratulated the winning team and the Youth and Sports Department.

Director of Sports, Mr. Jamir Claxton then presented a plaque to sponsors TDC, who have sponsored the tournament for over 20 years. This was accepted by Miss Kesha Jones.

Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn, who reminded all that he has made as his mandate ‘more cricket,’ congratulated the Youth and Sports

Department for leading out in the charge.
He also congratulated TDC, the players and the coaches and pleaded with the cricketers to allow discipline to be a part of their daily lives and to continue to grow and develop in the sport.
He also congratulated Mr. Carl Tuckett for his excellent live commentary during the match.
The umpires and scorers who officiated during the tournament, were also presented with medals.

The top awards were then presented.

Best bowler: T’narje Lawrence (EPPS)-10 wickets

Best batsman: Chris Browne (IWPS)-57 runs

Best wicketkeeper: Kaeem Saddler (EPPS)

MVP of the tournament: Chris Browne (IWPS)
