Tourism officials on Nevis engage in strategic planning

NIA CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (February 27, 2013) –Strategic planning has been one of the areas which engaged the attention of the Ministry of Tourism in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA) over the past month.

Deputy Premier of Nevis who also has responsibility for the Ministry of Tourism Hon. Mark Brantley, made the announcement in a televised address on NTV Channel 8, on February 26, 2013 related to the accomplishments made by the Ministry since the new NIA was sworn into office late January.

“The Ministry has also been involved in the past few weeks with some strategic tourism planning.

“We have asked Ms. Lauren Pemberton, a Nevisian living in New York, with a wealth of experience in Public Relations and Marketing and a world traveller to assist in assessing of the present status of the industry and making recommendations for the way forward,” he said.

Mr. Brantley further explained that of immediate priority to the Ministry, was the development of a plan for the historical sites and monuments on Nevis, continuous training in customer service, support for entrepreneurs, capacity building and reducing the impact of seasonality.

“Put differently, Nevis must do everything to ensure that the tourist season becomes all year round as opposed to the narrow window that it now occupies,” he said.

The Tourism Minister also disclosed that as part and parcel of the Nevis Tourism Authority’s marketing thrust, it will represent Nevis at important overseas promotional events which include the AAA Travel Impressions in Foxborough, Massachusetts this weekend and United Caribbean in London in early March.

“Our Cruise Marketing Officer Tamica Lawrence is currently in the British Virgin Islands for an OECS sponsored seminar on the Yachting Industry and I propose to travel next month to the Seatrade Cruise Conference slated for Miami,” he said.
