KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT — Defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) kicked off their Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 campaign with a 19-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method over the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on Saturday evening.
After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Knight Riders produced a disciplined bowling performance. Veteran spinner Sunil Narine led the attack, delivering a masterclass spell of 3 for 7 from his four overs, including a maiden, to earn Player of the Match honours.
Terrance Hinds matched the three-wicket haul with figures of 3 for 33, while Dominic Drakes chipped in with 2 for 20. The Patriots struggled to build momentum throughout their innings, slumping to 16 for 3 early in the powerplay.
A fighting effort from Kevin Wickham (38 off 44 balls) and opening contributions from Johnson Charles (21) helped rebuild the innings, eventually carrying the Patriots to 109 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Trinbago Knight Riders began their chase cautiously under overcast skies.
Despite early breakthroughs from Jason Holder and Waqar Salamkheil, who dismissed Alex Hales (9) and Colin Munro (17) respectively, TKR kept control of the required rate. Matthew Breetzke anchored the chase with an unbeaten 35 off 35 balls alongside Joshua Da Silva (18).
When rain intervened at the end of the 15th over with TKR positioned at 94 for 2—well ahead of the DLS par score of 75—play was officially called off, confirming a 19-run victory for the Knight Riders.
