Trinidad and Tobago’s women were left to rue another disappointing batting performance as they slipped to a four-wicket defeat against the Leeward Islands in their CWI Women’s T20 Blaze encounter at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in St. Vincent, Saturday, 17th January
Sent in to bat, T&T never found any rhythm and struggled against a disciplined Leeward Islands bowling attack, managing just 74 for nine from their 20 overs. The target proved no challenge for the Leewards, who reached it with 23 balls to spare.
The Red Force endured a stuttering start, coming under immediate pressure. Captain Karishma Ramharack was the first to depart in the third over, caught by Davronique Maynard off Shawnisha Hector, leaving T&T on 10 for one. Samara Ramnath (five) followed soon after, caught behind by Reniece Boyce off Jahzara Claxton.
Veteran Britney Cooper attempted to steady the innings but found it difficult to build momentum as wickets continued to tumble. Djenaba Joseph (five) was run out as T&T slipped to 20 for three inside seven overs. At the same time, another experienced campaigner, Anisa Mohammed, failed to get going, scoring six before falling to Amanda Edwards at the halfway stage.
Cooper made 12 from 17 balls before being caught by Claxton off Davronique Maynard. Lee Ann Kirby then departed for a duck, also to Edwards, leaving T&T in serious trouble at 47 for seven.
Amelia Khan provided some late resistance, top-scoring with 17 from 24 balls and striking the only six of the innings. She shared a brief partnership with Nadia Mohammed, who remained unbeaten on 12, to push the total past 50. Khan was dismissed in the final over, giving Rozel Liburd a return catch.
In reply, the Leeward Islands lost Qiana Joseph early, run out for four in the first over, while Shawnisha Hector (three) fell to Brianna Harricharan in the fifth. However, Reniece Boyce and Amanda Edwards steadied the chase with a composed 31-run partnership that effectively sealed the contest.
Boyce anchored the innings with a top score of 28 from 31 balls, including five boundaries, while Edwards contributed a fluent 27. Both were later dismissed by Ramharack, who finished with three wickets.
Any late nerves were calmed by Jahzara Claxton, whose unbeaten 12—featuring a six and a four—guided the Leewards to victory in 16.1 overs.
Trinidad and Tobago will face Guyana in their penultimate match of the campaign tomorrow at the same venue, with play scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
