Tropical Storm Dorian weakens while moving rapidly westward

MIAMI, USA — Satellite images on Friday showed that Tropical Storm Dorian was becoming disorganised as the system continued to move toward the west near 22 mph. Additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, at 5:00 pm EDT on Friday, the centre of Dorian was located about 1,135 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands and the general motion westward was expected to continue for the next 48 hours.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 45 mph, with higher gusts. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the centre.

Interests in the northern Leeward Islands should monitor the progress of Dorian.
