Gingerland-Nevis- Hot on the heels of the special and now annual service to honour centenarians, which was held on Tuesday 16th October, Hon. Eric Evelyn, made special presentations to two of the seniors, who were not able to attend the ceremony.
On Wednesday 17th October, Minister Evelyn firstly presented a gift basket to Miss Eileen Smithen of Zion Village, who demonstrated quite clearly that her memory and mind were still clear and working overtime, as she recounted real life stories that occurred when she was a mere teenager.
Minister Evelyn saluted her on the fact that she is a centenarian and would have contributed significantly to the general welfare of the island.
Miss Smithen thanked the Minister for the kind gesture and even went on to sing a bit of the popular hymn: ‘Showers of Blessing’.
The Minister’s next stop was only a short distance away, at River Path, where he similarly honoured centenarian Mrs. Mary Browne, who will incidentally be celebrating yet another milestone on November 1st.
The Minister, in presenting a gift basket, assured her that he will be back to celebrate with her.
Mrs. Browne also thanked Minister Evelyn for the kind gesture and was sharp enough to tell him that he was looking handsome.
Accompanying the Minister on the very important trip, was Deputy Director at the Department of Social Services, Miss Joyce Moven.
