AL AMERAT, Oman — The United Arab Emirates (UAE) have claimed the final qualifying berth for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, cruising to an eight-wicket victory over Japan in the Asia-East Asia Pacific (EAP) Qualifier on Thursday.
A sharp bowling performance led by Haider Ali (3 for 20), followed by a commanding 70-run opening stand between Alishan Sharafu and captain Muhammad Waseem, set the foundation for a comfortable chase of Japan’s modest 117-run target.
The victory capped a dominant campaign by the UAE and locked in the complete line-up for next year’s expanded 20-team global tournament, to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

The 2026 edition will retain the 20-team format used in 2024. Teams will be divided into four groups of five, with each side playing the others in their group once.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super Eight stage — two groups of four teams playing in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each Super Eight group will move on to the semi-finals, culminating in the grand final.
