A humble servant of Zetland’s Village, Ms Brandy has dedicated herself to serving her community and helping others. Her love for people began at an early age and continued throughout her professional career, from her time at the prestigious Four Seasons Resort, Nevis, to her service as a postal courier with the Nevis Island Administration. She later served as Centre Manager of the Pond Hill Community Centre, a role she embraced with dignity, dedication, and pride.
Over the years, Ms Brandy has been actively involved in numerous community groups and initiatives. She served as both a driver and a member of the Gifted Youth Steel Orchestra and played a significant leadership role as President of the Pond Hill, Beach Road, Chicken Stone and Clay Ghaut Community Group. Additionally, she served as a member of the St. George’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Gingerama Committee, contributing her time and talents to initiatives that promote community development, preparedness, and cultural preservation.
For many years, Ms Brandy served as Shelter Manager at the Pond Hill Community Centre for the Nevis Disaster Management Department. She carried out this responsibility with professionalism, compassion, and pride. During hurricanes and other emergencies, she willingly left the comfort and safety of her home to assist those in need and shelter them. Her willingness to serve others during some of the most challenging circumstances is a true reflection of her character and unwavering commitment to her community.
Ms Brandy was instrumental in organising the Pond Hill Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and the first Breadnut Affair, a signature event held at the Pond Hill Community Centre. The event brought community members together while shining a light on the often-underappreciated breadnut. She also lent her support to the Annual Jessups Seafood Fiesta. She is the kind of person who does not seek recognition but consistently steps forward whenever there is a need.
Though now retired, Ms Veronica Brandy remains deeply invested in the well-being and growth of her community. Her years of selfless service, compassion, and willingness to assist others are a testament to why she is deserving of the Unsung Hero Award for St. John’s Parish.
Her quiet yet impactful contributions have touched the lives of many, and her enduring commitment to community service embodies the true spirit of an unsung hero.
