Vacancy -UNRWA Principal Legal Officer (International Law)

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) invites interested persons to apply for the position of Principal Legal Officer (International Law) in Jerusalem.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting the Director of Legal Affairs to lead the programme of work and management of the human and financial resources of the Department and provide strategic and technical leadership to the Agency’s lawyers with a view to ensuring legally sound, timely, easily applied, politically sensitive and consistent advice; ensuring the consistent interpretation and application of international law throughout the Agency. Notably, supervise development of strategies to promote, implement, provide advice, and supervise provision of advice and training on relevant public international law, including UN law and international human rights, humanitarian and refugee law.

Candidates should have knowledge of the history and contemporary problems of the Middle East and should be familiar with UN Common System and practices. They should also have at least two years of international experience outside one’s home country and working knowledge of Arabic.
