NEVIS, August 27, 2026 — A contingent of young male and female cricketers from the Wendell Austin Wallace (WAW) Academy departed Nevis in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, en route to St. Maarten for a series of youth cricket matches.
The delegation includes players representing the Under-19, Under-16, and Under-13 teams, who will face their counterparts from St. Maarten in matches scheduled for Friday, August 28; Saturday, August 29; and Sunday, August 30 at the Caribe Lumbar Ball Park.
Long-serving coach Wendell “Micey” Wallace said the tour forms part of the academy’s broader development programme, providing the young cricketers with valuable competitive experience while helping to further develop their skills and confidence.
Wallace explained that 28 members of the delegation boarded the Blue Wave on Wednesday, while another 20 were scheduled to travel on Thursday morning.
The players and delegation members are expected to return to Nevis in two groups, with travel scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Accompanying the teams are several parents, as well as a chef and assistant cooks, who will help ensure that the young cricketers are properly cared for throughout the tour.
Speaking confidently before departure from the Oualie Pier, Wallace made clear that the academy is travelling with a competitive mindset.
“When we travel, we expect to win,” Wallace stated.
The tour is expected to provide the young athletes with an opportunity to test themselves against international opposition, strengthen team spirit, and gain valuable match experience as they continue their development in the sport.
