The West Indies Under-19 team claimed victory in the opening One-Day match against Pakistan Under-19s on Saturday, August 30, at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, winning by just 12 runs in a thrilling contest.
Batting first, the young Windies posted a competitive 256 all out in 49.5 overs. Jonathan Van Lange led the charge with a composed 83, while Pakistan’s Akash proved the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 4 for 33.
In reply, Pakistan fought hard but fell just short, bowled out for 244 in 48.2 overs. Gamage kept hopes alive with a brilliant 123, but the West Indies attack held firm. Jakeem Pollard starred with the ball, claiming 3 for 34, to seal a well-earned win for the home side.
With the result, the West Indies Under-19s go 1–0 up in the series. The second One-Dayer is set for Tuesday, September 2, once again at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
