Wins For T&T, Jamaica and Windwards as Rising Stars Under 15s Bowl Off

A polished century from Earsinho Fontaine was the highlight of the first round of matches in the West Indies Rising Stars Under 15 tournament on Tuesday.

The Windward Islands opener made 130 off 146 balls as his team beat Leeward Islands by 99 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Fontaine hit 13 fours and two sixes as he shared an opening stand of 101 with Theo Edwards (38) and then added another 117 with Jonathan Daniel (52) as Windwards made 263-3 — the highest score of the day. In reply, Leewards made 164 all out off 44.2 overs

At Liberta Sports Club: Jamaica beat defending champions Barbados by 18 runs in a closely fought contest. Jamaica batted first and made 166 off 42.3 overs. DeMarco Scott top scored with 49 while R’Jai Gittens took 4-24.

In reply, the Bajans were cruising at 144-4 but collapsed to be bowled out for 147. Scott took 3-13 in a good all-round performance, while Gadson Bowen’s top scored with 66 which included nine boundaries.

At Coolidge Cricket Ground: Trinidad & Tobago had a big win by seven wickets over Guyana, who were bowled out for 75. In reply, T&T raced to 76-3 off 15.3 overs. The best bowlers for the winners were Yasir Deen with 3-8 and Darrius Batoosingh with 3-10.

Leeward Islands v Barbados at CCG; Guyana v Jamaica at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Trinidad & Tobago v Windward Islands at Liberta. The first ball is 9:30 am (8:30 am Jamaica).
