YOUNG NETBALLERS IMPROVING

By:Curtis Morton

President of the Nevis Netball Association, Miss Vera Herbert, is adamant that there is hope yet for Netball in Nevis, with the crop of young netballers who are currently playing the game.

She pointed to a recent Netball festival which was hosted in St.Kitts on Friday 23rd October, as testimony to this fact.

The tournament involved the Secondary schools in St.Kitts and Nevis, including the Charlestown Secondary School and the Gingerland Secondary School.
Miss Herbert pointed to the fact that last year during the high schools’ championships, both Nevis teams were badly beaten by the St.Kitts school teams.

However, on Friday last, the Charlestown Secondary School held its own and competed solidly to be beaten in one game by one goal and in another by four goals.
The teams were placed in zones and therefore the two Nevis schools did not get to compete against each other.

She however noted some improvement in the playing of the Gingerland team, even though they were not as successful as the Charlestown team.
She is looking forward to some very competitive games from both schools, when the federation Secondary Schools championship shoots off this coming Wednesday-28th October.

The Gingerland team will travel to St.Kitts to play against one of the teams there and the CSS team will engage the Washington Archibald High School at 2 pm at the Grell Hull –Stevens Netball Complex.
Miss Herbert is encouraging the general public to come on out to witness the upcoming games.
