Youth Department Hosts Netball Festival

The Department of Sports recently hosted a Netball festival at the Brown Hill hard court.

Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton, in an interview with Ramie Gumbs of the Communications Unit in the Ministry of Social Development, indicated that the idea was born out of an initiative previously carried out by the Sports Department.

That initiative involved an attempt to revive the game of Netball throughout the island and resulted in the coaching and playing of the game at various courts around the island.

The festival involved three teams from Nevis: Misfits (involving past Nevis team players); a team from the Department of Sports and Majestics (a team from Gingerland).

There were also two invited teams from St. Kitts as well.

A sizeable crowd was on hand to witness the games and later in the evening, there was also an exhibition Basketball game between Dynasty Ballers and the Sports Department’s youthful team, Eagles.

According to Claxton, after such a successful hosting of the festival, the next move planned is the hosting of a Parish league, later in the year.

This will be planned in collaboration with the local Netball Association.
