The West Indies Women have secured a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup despite suffering a defeat to Ireland in their final group-stage match.
Batting first, the West Indies posted 128 for 7 from their allotted 20 overs. Ireland held their nerve during the chase, reaching 129 for 4 in 18.1 overs to complete a six-wicket victory.
Despite the loss, the West Indies advanced after England defeated New Zealand, allowing the Caribbean side to edge past Sri Lanka on net run rate and claim the second semi-final spot from the group.
The West Indies will now face defending champions Australia in the first semi-final on Tuesday, June 30.
The second semi-final will see England take on South Africa on Thursday, July 2, with the winner advancing to the final.
