Charlestown, Nevis – The 2026 edition of the Eddy Caines Summer Football Camp officially got underway at the ET Willet Park on Monday, July 13, marking the 21st staging of the highly respected youth football development programme.
Founder and Coordinator Eddy Caines chaired the opening ceremony and expressed heartfelt appreciation to the many sponsors whose unwavering support has helped sustain the camp over the past two decades.
Several sponsors addressed the gathering, commending Caines for his longstanding commitment to youth development through sport.
Among them was Ms Keesha Jones, Manager of the Charlestown Branch of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, who congratulated Caines on his many years of volunteerism and dedicated service to the nation’s youth. As part of the bank’s contribution, she presented complimentary water bottles to all camp participants.
Also extending congratulations were Ms Nakita Thibou-Newton, Corporate Communications Officer at NEVLEC, and Ms Jaedee Caines, representing the Nevis Credit Union. Both praised the camp’s positive impact on young people and reaffirmed their organisations’ support for the initiative.
Director of Sports Mr Aljay Newton, himself a former participant in the Eddy Caines Summer Football Camp, spoke proudly of the programme’s influence on his own development. He encouraged the young footballers to make the most of the three-week camp, emphasising that the skills, discipline, teamwork, and values they acquire will contribute not only to their growth as athletes but also to their personal development.
Mr Newton then officially declared the camp open, after which the participants took to the field to begin their first training session under the guidance of the coaching staff.
Now in its 21st year, the Eddy Caines Summer Football Camp continues to play a vital role in nurturing young talent, promoting healthy lifestyles, and fostering discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among Nevis’ youth.
