BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (St. Kitts-Nevis Daily ) — St. Kitts and Nevis has officially withdrawn from the race to host the 2027 CARIFTA Games, abruptly ending months of anticipation and delivering a crushing disappointment to athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts across the Federation.

After publicly expressing interest in bringing the Caribbean’s premier junior athletics championships back to the Federation, the Government has now decided that hosting the Games next year would not be the best option for the country.

The confirmation came from Minister of Sports Samal Duggins, who told SKNVibes on Wednesday, July 15, that discussions involving the Government, St. Kitts-Nevis Athletics and the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee had concluded that 2027 was not the “most ideal time” to host.

“We believe that, along with the different institutions, particularly the Olympic Committee, that next year would not be the most ideal time for us to host it,” Duggins said.

The minister added that the Federation had asked for its hosting interest to be deferred until another, presently undisclosed, date.
