The UK’s Kittitian and Nevisian community will gather in Birmingham on Sunday 23 August for the fifth staging of St. Kitts & Nevis Heritage Day, an event expected to attract around 1,500 people from across the country.

Held at Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club and organised by the Association of St. Kitts & Nevis Descendants (ASKaND), the annual celebration showcases the culture, traditions and heritage of St. Kitts and Nevis through music, food and community activities.

This year’s event will feature performances by Nevisian singer Itebulous, former lead vocalist of the Ultrasonics, alongside rising St. Kitts artist Dejour and reggae artist Virgil Hodge. Hosting duties will be handled by Sweet Sister Sensia, while DJs KMD, Bajan Touch, Jus-Us and Godfather provide music throughout the day.

Food will also play a major role in the celebrations, with Birmingham-based chef Esmie Stewart of Esmie’s Caribbean Fusion serving traditional Kittitian favourites, including goat water and cook-up, as well as contemporary Caribbean street-food dishes.

The St. Kitts Tourism Authority will be represented at the event by UK Sales & Marketing Consultant Chelcie Lewis, who will promote the federation’s recently launched We Limin Diaspora Programme, which offers travel benefits to St. Kitts and Nevis nationals living overseas while strengthening ties with the homeland.

ASKaND Chief Strategic Officer Edlynn Zakers said the event continues to bring together multiple generations of Kittitians and Nevisians living in Britain.

“Heritage Day began as a way for our community to come together and celebrate where we come from, and in five years it has grown into something far bigger,” she said.

St. Kitts & Nevis Heritage Day takes place from 12pm to 8pm on Sunday 23 August at Birmingham Moseley Rugby Club.
