The Antigua & Barbuda Falcons maintained their 100 per cent home record with a stunning six-wicket victory over the Trinbago Knight Riders at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The unbeaten 76-run partnership between Kusal Perera and Shadab Khan rescued the Falcons from a precarious position in the run chase and secured a memorable victory for the home side.

Khan produced arguably the performance of the tournament so far, starring with both bat and ball. The Pakistan all-rounder smashed an unbeaten 52 from just 20 balls and followed that up with outstanding bowling figures of 1 for 8 from his four overs. His match-winning contribution left little doubt that he would claim the Player of the Match award.

The Knight Riders made an explosive start as Colin Munro and Nicholas Pooran launched an assault on the Falcons attack during the Power Play. Munro punished anything close to his pads, repeatedly finding the leg side, while Pooran employed his trademark unorthodox switch-hitting to keep the bowlers under pressure.

The pair tore into the Falcons attack, helping the Knight Riders race to 73 for 1 at the end of the Power Play.

However, the Falcons responded strongly between the end of the Power Play and the strategic timeout, claiming the crucial wickets of Pooran, Munro and Matthew Breetzke. The introduction of Shadab Khan and Tobagonian Joshua James into the attack proved to be a turning point for the home side.

James finished with impressive figures of 2 for 23, including the important wickets of Pooran and Kieron Pollard, as the Falcons fought their way back into the contest.

Having appeared on course for a total in excess of 200 at one stage, the Knight Riders ultimately finished on 165 for 6. The early brilliance of Munro and Pooran had provided the foundation for a huge total. Still, the loss of wickets disrupted their momentum and allowed the Falcons to seize control before the innings break.

The Falcons adopted a cautious approach at the beginning of their chase, perhaps inspired by the Saint Lucia Kings’ approach the previous night. They managed only 33 runs during the Power Play and lost Rahkeem Cornwall in the process.

What followed was a fascinating contest, with the Falcons attempting to maintain a scoring rate just behind the required run rate while the Knight Riders’ bowlers continued to take wickets and disrupt the home side’s momentum.

Amir Jangoo and Moeen Ali appeared capable of taking the Falcons to victory, but both fell after threatening to seize control of the chase.

That left the door open for Perera and Khan to produce a sensational finish.

The decisive moment came in the 18th over when 21-year-old Nathan Edward, who had bowled impressively earlier in the innings, endured a disastrous over. Edward conceded 27 runs and was ultimately replaced by Kieron Pollard for the final delivery after bowling a second waist-high no-ball.

With the Falcons requiring just 11 runs from the final 12 balls, the momentum had swung decisively in favour of the home side.

Shadab Khan then wasted no time in finishing the job, smashing the Knight Riders out of the contest in just three deliveries to seal a stunning six-wicket victory.

The result gives the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons back-to-back victories and sees them move to the top of the CPL table, at least for now.

For the defending champions, it was a second consecutive defeat, leaving the Trinbago Knight Riders still searching for their best form as the tournament gathers momentum.

With Shadab Khan producing a spectacular all-round display and the Falcons preserving their unbeaten home record, the home side sent a powerful message to the rest of the competition.
