CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS – Following standout performances at the CARIFTA Games, young athletic stars Kymarni Newton and Najeeb Kelly have etched their names in the nation’s history books by securing full track and field scholarships to attend St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) in Jamaica.
This achievement marks a historic first for the Federation, as Newton and Kelly become the first track and field athletes from St. Kitts and Nevis to earn athletic scholarships to a high school in Jamaica—a powerhouse nation in global track and field.
Their accomplishment expands upon the legacy of national track icons such as Tiandra Ponteen, Virgil Hodge, and Melville Rogers, who previously blazed trails through the American high school and collegiate systems.
What makes this milestone even more remarkable is the unbroken bond between the two athletes. From their early days competing at Charlestown Primary School to their time at Charlestown Secondary School, Newton and Kelly have trained and developed side-by-side. Now, they embark on this next high-performance chapter together at STETHS.
