BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Honda Newtown United FC claimed the 2026 SKNFA Elvis Star Browne Women’s League title following a hard-fought 2–1 comeback victory over defending champions Mapau Cayon Rockettes in the championship final on Wednesday, August 26, at the National Bank Group Technical Centre.
Mapau Cayon Rockettes struck early when Myesha Rawlins opened the scoring in the 9th minute, holding a 1–0 lead into the halftime break.
Newtown United mounted a disciplined second-half surge led by team captain Christi-Anne Mills. Mills delivered a stellar performance, netting the equaliser in the 70th minute before sealing the comeback with the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute. Her clutch performance earned her MVP of the Final, building on the League MVP honour she secured at the end of the regular season.
The victory caps a historic, unbeaten campaign for Honda Newtown United, marking the club’s first championship in the competition.
Reflecting on the match, Newtown United Head Coach Kevin Welsh commended his squad’s composure under pressure:
“We were down early… we decided we’re going to make a tactical approach to the game and just get back to what we’ve been doing all season,” Welsh said. “It’s the first time we’ve ever been down during the season, and therefore it’s something different to overcome, but it shows the character of our young ladies in Newtown. That was the goal from the start of the season… the plan worked, and here we are, champions.”
Captain Christi-Anne Mills highlighted the unit’s determination to execute their long-term vision:
“Conceding early put a damper on us, but we had to keep our heads together and just keep working because we came so far,” Mills shared. “We had this goal in mind, and we knew we had to see it through.”
