Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis – September 3, 2026 – The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Alumni Association, St. Kitts and Nevis Chapter, successfully hosted its Meet and Mingle Alumni Networking Event, bringing together graduates, distinguished guests, and supporters for an evening of fellowship, networking, and renewed commitment to alumni engagement.
The event marked an important step in revitalising the Chapter following a period of inactivity and provided an opportunity for alumni from various generations and professional backgrounds to reconnect with one another and reaffirm their connection to The University of the West Indies.
Among the distinguished attendees were Her Excellency Dame Marcella Liburd, Governor-General of St. Kitts and Nevis, and the Right Honourable and Right Excellent Sir Kennedy Simmonds, First Prime Minister and National Hero of St. Kitts and Nevis, both of whom are proud UWI alumni. Their presence underscored the significant contributions that UWI graduates have made to the development of the Federation and the wider Caribbean region.
In his address, Interim President Dr Nigel Browne shared the vision of the newly appointed Interim Executive Committee and outlined plans to restore the Chapter as a vibrant and impactful organisation.
“The vision of the Interim Executive Committee of The UWI Alumni Association, St. Kitts and Nevis Chapter, can be summed up in our motto: Connect! Collaborate! Create Impact! Our intention is to make an impact within our communities, society, and the nation by giving back our time, talents, and resources. Some initiatives that will be rolled out during the academic year include the painting of The UWI Global Campus Site, a welcome reception for new graduates, a UWI Care Programme in recognition of our elderly alumni, and a Mentorship Programme for young students preparing to enter UWI,” said Dr. Browne.
He emphasised that the Chapter’s renewed focus will be on strengthening alumni relationships, fostering professional collaboration, supporting current and prospective students, and leveraging the collective expertise of alumni to contribute to national development.
The Meet and Mingle event provided a welcoming environment for alumni to reconnect with former classmates, establish new professional relationships, and engage in meaningful discussions about the future direction of the Chapter. Acting Head of the St. Kitts and Nevis Global Campus Site, Ms Sandra Isaac, shared ideas and opportunities for future programmes and initiatives that would enhance alumni engagement and service.
Members of the Interim Executive Committee expressed their appreciation to all alumni and supporters who attended and contributed to the success of the event. The strong turnout and enthusiastic participation reflected a shared desire among graduates to see the Chapter reinvigorated and positioned for greater impact in the years ahead.
The UWI Alumni Association, St. Kitts and Nevis Chapter, looks forward to launching a series of activities and community outreach initiatives aimed at strengthening alumni connections and advancing the University’s longstanding tradition of service, leadership, and regional development.
