Providence, Guyana – September 5, 2026 – The Guyana Amazon Warriors secured a comfortable eight-wicket victory over the Jamaica Kingsmen at Providence Stadium in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), chasing down a target of 160 with 16 balls to spare.
The Warriors’ successful run chase was set up by a blistering PowerPlay partnership between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Mavendra Dindyal, before captain Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer completed the job in commanding fashion.
Put in to bat, the Jamaica Kingsmen struggled to find momentum against a disciplined Guyana bowling attack. Dwaine Pretorius struck twice in his three overs, removing Kirk McKenzie for 1 and Keacy Carty for 18, both leg before wicket. Khary Pierre also claimed two wickets, dismissing Usman Khan and later having Maaz Sadaqat caught for 35 from 34 deliveries.
The Kingsmen continued to lose wickets at regular intervals through the middle overs. Keemo Paul was dismissed for 15, while captain Rovman Powell fell for a golden duck to Mohammad Nabi, leaving Jamaica struggling at 83 for 5 in the 13th over.
However, Hassan Khan produced a remarkable late-innings assault to revive the Kingsmen’s total. Khan smashed an unbeaten 62 from just 29 balls, including six sixes, to propel Jamaica to 159 for 7. Odean Smith contributed 13 before being run out in the penultimate over, with Vitel Lawes remaining at the non-striker’s end.
The Warriors’ response was emphatic from the outset. Gurbaz and Dindyal added 46 runs in less than five overs, immediately putting the chase on course for victory.
Dindyal struck four sixes in his explosive 33 off 17 balls before falling to Hunain Shah. Gurbaz continued to apply pressure, scoring 54 from 35 deliveries, including five fours and three sixes, before he was caught by Powell off Sadaqat with the Warriors on 114 in the 13th over.
With the foundation firmly established, Hope and Hetmyer took control of the chase. Hope provided stability with an unbeaten 39 from 35 balls, while Hetmyer accelerated with an unbeaten 30 from just 17 deliveries.
The pair comfortably guided the Warriors to victory in the 18th over, completing an eight-wicket win with 16 balls remaining.
Hunain Shah and Sadaqat were the only Jamaica bowlers to claim wickets, as the Kingsmen struggled to contain a Guyana batting lineup that maintained a strong scoring rate throughout the chase.
The victory extends the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ unbeaten home run this season, while the Jamaica Kingsmen will look to regroup quickly as they continue their push for a place in the CPL playoffs.
