Bridgetown, Barbados – September 6, 2026 – Nicholas Pooran’s explosive half-century and a brilliant spell from Sunil Narine powered the Trinbago Knight Riders to a 35-run victory over the Barbados Tridents in a low-scoring Caribbean Premier League (CPL) encounter in Bridgetown.
The Knight Riders posted 147 for 6 after being sent in to bat, with Pooran producing a match-defining 59 from 37 balls, including seven sixes. Colin Munro provided valuable support with 38.
In reply, the Tridents struggled against a disciplined Knight Riders bowling attack and were dismissed for 112 with nine balls remaining, falling well short of their target.
Narine was the architect of the Tridents’ collapse, claiming 4 for 12 and striking three times during the PowerPlay. His early breakthroughs left Barbados reeling at 35 for 4 at the end of the first six overs.
Akeal Hosein added to the pressure by claiming a wicket in the sixth over, while Usman Tariq bowled an economical four-over spell, conceding just 25 runs. Jyd Goolie also made a significant contribution with 3 for 20, as the Knight Riders’ spin attack effectively strangled the Tridents’ scoring.
The Tridents struggled to produce a substantial partnership, with Zachary Carter and Sherfane Rutherford sharing top-scoring honours with 21 runs apiece. Lahiru Kumara claimed two wickets, including the dismissal of Rutherford, before Narine returned to complete the victory by taking the final wicket.
The Knight Riders’ spin quartet of Narine, Hosein, Tariq and Goolie combined for eight wickets and conceded just 82 runs in 14.3 overs, demonstrating remarkable control on a challenging Bridgetown pitch.
Earlier, Pooran provided the difference with an outstanding counter-attacking innings. He took 10 balls to get off the mark before unleashing his trademark power hitting.
The left-hander opened his account with a whip over the leg side before launching three consecutive sixes off Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the ninth over. He then repeated the feat against Gudakesh Motie in the 14th over, hitting another three sixes in succession.
Pooran survived a significant opportunity when Rivaldo Clarke dropped him at deep third off Jakeem Pollard, with the batter on 35 from 26 balls. He capitalised on the reprieve, eventually finishing with 59 from 37 deliveries.
The Knight Riders scored 96 runs from 63 balls while Pooran was at the crease, compared with just 51 runs from the 57 deliveries before and after his innings.
Motie finished with 3 for 29, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed 2 for 22 for the Tridents.
Ultimately, Pooran’s power hitting gave the Knight Riders a defendable total, while Narine and the rest of the bowling attack ensured that the Tridents never came close to mounting a successful chase.
