ST. KITTS AND NEVIS — CARE SKN, in strategic partnership with the Department of Marine Resources, St. Kitts and Nevis and the Blue Marine Foundation, is building local capacity for ocean conservation through the Reef Check EcoDiver Training Certification program.
The collaborative initiative provides island residents and marine stakeholders with specialised training to monitor and preserve the nation’s vital coral reef ecosystems. The hands-on program equips local participants with scientifically recognised reef survey techniques, enabling them to assess coral health, track marine biodiversity, and collect critical data to inform coastal management.
With two training cohorts already completed, the initiative has certified five new official Reef Check surveyors for St. Kitts and Nevis. A third cohort is currently underway, with additional training sessions planned to further expand the twin-island nation’s network of citizen-scientists and marine stewards.
By fostering local expertise, CARE SKN and its partners aim to safeguard St. Kitts and Nevis’ precious underwater habitats for future generations.
