It is our distinct pleasure to highlight the Unsung Hero for St. George’s Parish, Ms Elmeader Brookes.
Ms Elmeader Brookes is a distinguished public servant, community leader, and training consultant who has made significant contributions to the development of Nevis throughout her career.

Ms Brookes served as the Director of Research and Development within the Ministry of Tourism. In this capacity, she played an important role in advancing tourism development and spearheaded several major initiatives, including the island’s annual Tourism Awards, youth initiatives such as the National Geographic Photo Competition, and regional competitions organised through the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA).
As a Human Resources Manager within the Nevis Island Administration, Ms Brookes demonstrated a strong commitment to professional development and capacity building. She placed significant emphasis on training and empowering public servants, organising job fairs and serving as a hospitality training consultant. Through her work, she helped junior public servants strengthen their skills, particularly in customer relations and service delivery, contributing to the development of a more professional and efficient public service.
Ms Brookes has also served as a Centre Manager within the Department of Community Development, where she was responsible for overseeing the Charles L. Walters Community Centre. Her commitment to community empowerment extended beyond the management of facilities. She has chaired and supported several programmes designed to strengthen individuals and families, including the launch of the “Women on a Mission” initiative, bringing women together in order to use their combined strengths and skills for the advancement of Hanley’s road. This included assisting several persons with medical bills, hosting socials, and more.
Recognizing her commitment to the preservation and advancement of Nevisian culture, Ms. Brookes was appointed in 2013 by the Ministry of Culture to serve on the Board of Directors of the Nevis Cultural Development Foundation (NCDF). During her three-year tenure, she contributed to efforts aimed at preserving, promoting, and developing the rich cultural heritage of Nevis.
Through her willingness to serve, lead, mentor, and empower others, Ms. Brookes has made a lasting impact that extends far beyond the positions she has held. Her work reflects a lifetime of dedication to the people of Nevis, often carried out quietly and without expectation of recognition. Today, we proudly acknowledge and celebrate Ms. Elmeader Brookes for her outstanding service, her commitment to community development, and the meaningful legacy she continues to leave on the island of Nevis.
