Dr Janice Daniel-Hodge Calls on Diaspora to Remain Engaged in Nevis’ Future

NEW YORK  — The sights, sounds and flavours of Nevis came alive in the Bronx on Saturday, October 31, as Nevisians for Nevis (NFN) hosted its highly successful and well-attended Annual Brunch, bringing together members of the Nevisian diaspora for a memorable celebration of culture, community and an enduring love for their homeland.

NFN President, Mr Gene Syder, speaking to the many attendees.

Under the leadership of NFN President Mr Gene Syder, the gathering welcomed two special guests: Hon. Dr Janice Daniel-Hodge, Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), and Mr Carlisle Powell, Chairman of the NRP.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter, lively conversations, familiar Nevisian music and the unmistakable warmth of Caribbean hospitality. Guests enjoyed a delicious assortment of traditional dishes and local favourites, complemented by refreshing passion fruit juice, sorrel, mauby and ginger beer. The beloved cassava pone proved to be a nostalgic treat, bringing back cherished memories of home.

Beyond the food, music and fellowship, however, the occasion carried an important message about the future of Nevis.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Daniel-Hodge underscored the significance of the upcoming election and appealed to Nevisians living abroad to remain actively engaged in the affairs of their homeland.

NFN Brunch packed with attendees

“One of the things that I am asking Nevisians abroad to do is to save up and purchase your tickets to come to Nevis to vote, as this election is an important one,” she stated.

The NRP Leader went further, expressing concern about the island’s future and warning that if her party does not win the next election, “the Nevis that we know may not be no more.”

Her remarks highlighted the importance she places on diaspora participation in the island’s political and civic affairs.

Dr Daniel-Hodge also left a lasting personal impression on attendees. One guest subsequently shared a heartfelt reflection on social media:

“There is something special about a leader who listens and observes before speaking, possessing a rare form of quiet authority. She is dynamic.”

The attendee’s tribute captured the admiration inspired by Dr Daniel-Hodge’s thoughtful and engaging presence.

The brunch also served as a reminder that NFN’s mission extends well beyond social gatherings. Through fundraising and community outreach, the organisation continues to give back to Nevis, including by providing back-to-school supplies for children and supporting senior citizens at the island’s hospital.

President Gene Syder expressed sincere appreciation to Dr Daniel-Hodge and Mr Powell for attending and extended heartfelt thanks to NFN members, volunteers, supporters and everyone who contributed to the event’s success.

He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to preserving Nevisian heritage, strengthening diaspora connections and supporting meaningful charitable initiatives that benefit the people of Nevis.
