MOSCOW, Russia (Sporting Alert) — Usain Bolt dominated another world-class 100-metres field to win the final at the IAAF World Championships at the Luzhniki Stadium here in Moscow.
The Jamaican World record holder ran away from the field after 70m to clock a 2013 best of 9.77 seconds to make up for his false-start at the 2011 championships in Daegu.
American Justin Gatlin moved one place up from his Olympic bronze medal position to secure the silver in a seasonal best of 9.85secs.
Gatlin,who beat Bolt earlier this year in Europe, took the time to also come over and congratulate Bolt on his fantastic performance.
Another Jamaican, Nester Carter, who replaced the injured Yohan Blake, the 2011 champion, was third in 9.95secs.
Jamaicans Kemar Bailey-Cole (9.98) and Nickel Ashmeade (9.98) took fourth and fifth, respectively.
Also striking gold on day two on Sunday was Ethiopian long distance superstar Tirunesh Dibaba, won her 3rd world title in women’s 10000m.
Dibaba clocked 30min 43.37sec to win the gold medal with a stunning final last lap, while Gladys Cherono of Kenya took the silver (30:45.17), and Ethiopia’s Belaynesh Oljira claiming bronze (30:46.98).
Japan’s Hitomi Niiya, who battled hard until the final lap was unable to hold on for a medal, but did clock a personal best of 30:56.70 in finishing 5th.
