Britain Urged to ‘Rush Slowly’ This Stress Awareness Month – Inspired by the Caribbean Island of Nevis

Nevis, known for its simple yet powerful motto “rush slowly”, is sharing its approach to everyday wellbeing for Stress Awareness Month this April.

Recent research shows that more than 9 in 10 UK adults experienced high or extreme stress in the past year, with nearly 2 in 5 workers reporting burnout. Against this backdrop, Nevis is encouraging Brits not just to temporarily escape their lives but to rethink how they live.

Life on Nevis moves at a different pace. With no crowds, minimal noise, no traffic lights, car-free days and nature woven into daily routines, the island has long been recognised as a place where time feels expansive rather than pressured. At the heart of Nevis’ appeal is not just its landscape but also its mindset.

Now, that mindset has been distilled into The Nevis Method: a set of simple, practical principles designed to help people feel less overwhelmed, wherever they are in the world.

The Nevis Method: Six Ways to ‘Rush Slowly’

Do one thing at a time – Swap multitasking for mindful focus
Schedule ‘nothing’ time – Create space in your day without an agenda
Spend 30 minutes outdoors – Make nature a part of your daily routine
Eat without distractions – Slow down and be present at mealtimes
Switch off daily – Take at least one hour away from screens and notifications
Replace urgency with intention – Not everything needs to be immediate
In the UK, where long working hours and constant connectivity have become the norm, the contrast is striking. While wellness is often treated as something to fit into already busy schedules, life on Nevis shows that wellbeing can be built into everyday moments.

“On Nevis, ‘rush slowly’ isn’t just a phrase, it’s a way of life,” said Andia Ravariere, CEO of the Nevis Tourism Authority. “It’s about moving through the day with intention rather than urgency. For Stress Awareness Month, we want to share that philosophy in a way that people can realistically apply, even in the busiest cities.”

The initiative encourages individuals and workplaces alike to adopt elements of The Nevis Method throughout April, reframing stress management not as a one-off fix, but as a cultural shift.

Nevis remains a sought-after destination for those looking to truly switch off, and its message this month is simple: Sometimes, the best way forward is to rush slowly.
