Charlestown Secondary School host Relay Festival

The Charlestown Secondary School hosted a relay festival on Friday 29th January at the ET Willet Park.

The meet which was held between the hours of 2 and 6 pm was coordinated in the main by Coach at the school, Mr. Shirmon Caines.

According to Caines, the meet served several purposes:

  • Open the track season for the junior and youth athletes
  • Knock off the rust before the various school meets
  • Allow coaches to see where their athletes are at in their preparation
  • Give the children a meet where there wasn’t any pressure
  • Build camaraderie between school children
  • Relay practice for high school championship
  • Fund raiser for the CSS school athletic team.
  • Build more interest for athletics and high school meets in Nevis

 

The meet saw participating teams from the Charlestown Secondary School and the Gingerland Secondary School and featured the following:

Categories:

: Under 15, Under 20 males and females

Events: 4X100m; 4X200m; Sprint medley; 100m, 200m, 300m, 4000m; Distance medley- 300-600-600-900m.

At the end of the day, the results were as follows:

According to Caines, there was no champion school determined at the end of the meet. It was a competition geared towards fostering improvement in the athletes and also involved them having fun.

 

 

The Charlestown Secondary School intends to make the event an annual affair.

The school’s next meet will be the field events competition on the March 19th.  That would be four days before its annual sports March 24, 2016.
