CHRIS BROWN is to enter rehab following his arrest for assault in Washington DC, a representative for the singer confirmed.

A spokesperson for the star said: “Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility.

“His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behaviour, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point.”

Mark Geragos, Brown’s lawyer has also commented, saying that the singer “decided he wanted to take some time off and do some introspection”.

Brown cryptically tweeted last night: “In order to go where u have never gone u have to be willing to go where u never been!!!”

Brown’s lawyer has also confirmed that his decision to enter rehab is not mutually exclusive to the assault case where Brown and his bodyguard were arrested early Sunday morning (October 27) after an altercation at The W Hotel in Washington DC.

Brown was initially charged with felony assault after a man said Brown or his bodyguard broke his nose by punching it when he tried to get a picture with the singer.

TMZ has reported that Brown pleaded not guilty and was released from custody without bail.

Brown remains on five-year probation after his 2009 attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna.

He was required to take mandatory domestic violence courses and perform 1,400 hours of community service.

Brown was expected to co-headline a concert with R’n’B girl band Danity Kane at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Tuesday night (October 29), but he cancelled the gig ahead of checking into rehab.
