The evening of Saturday, 27th September marked the official opening of the 2025 Church Ground Basketball League, informally known as the “CG and CG Development League.”
The brief but meaningful ceremony was chaired by Chief Coordinator Wanda Parry-France, who also offered the invocation. Following the singing of the national anthem, Minister of Sports, Hon. Troy Liburd, delivered remarks.
Minister Liburd commended the league for featuring several young players, noting that he was pleased the tournament would serve as a platform for their development. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the league and the future of basketball on the island, before officially declaring the competition open.
Mrs France announced that the opening night would feature a single matchup between Hoop Nation and the Dominica team. Regular match nights are scheduled for Sundays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays, with Thursdays reserved as backup dates in the event of rainouts.
The general public is warmly invited to attend and show their support for the players as the tournament unfolds.
