Cricket : Empire Takes Championship Honours in T-20 Tournament

The much anticipated grand finals, in the ongoing T-20 tournament that was recently hosted by the Nevis Cricket Association, was played on Sunday, January 17, 2020, at the VOJN grounds.

It was match two and it was the grand finale, between Pennyless All Stars and Empire.

Adelvin Phillip won the toss for Empire and elected to bat first.  Empire got off to a blazing start, with Javia Liburd dealing in sixes and obviously a man on a mission.  He was especially severe on the medium pacers and Andre Browne later joined in the run feast, with an over from Akito Willet, which went for 24 runs.

Despite the early flurry of runs, Empire could only manage, what they admitted to be a below-par score of 133, from their 20 overs.

The spectators sat back in anticipation, awaiting the fireworks from the All Stars team.  Justin Amurdan and Jamie Cornelius, got them off to a solid start of 37, before they were parted.

However, thereafter, the batsmen generally struggled.  A few of them got starts, but in the final analysis, it was not enough on the day.  The powerful Pennyless All-stars team succumbed on 109 for 8, when their 20 overs were completed.

The Empire team and their fans, celebrated way into the night.
