Cricket : Heartbreak For Leewards Females as They Lose by Just One Run!

The Leewards Islands female cricket team, suffered a heartbreaking loss on Friday 12th May, at Warner Park, versus the Guyana female team.

Batting first, Guyana lost early wickets and appeared in some trouble, but good knocks from Gajnabi and Shultz, eventually got them to a competitive 167 for 9.

Leewards in response, also lost early wickets and the proverbial fat lady seemed to hovering by the Park’s gate, when main batter, Divya Saxena went for just four runs.

Enter Amanda Edwards and she proceeded to play a superb, shot filled, hand of 74 runs which almost took her team home, before she was brilliantly stumped by Windies keeper, Shemaine Campbell.
She was ably assisted by Windies under 19 player, Jahzara Claxton, who joined her in an impressive partnership of 84 runs.

The home team then needed 16 from 2 overs.
With the last ball being bowled, they required all of four runs.
Davanna Claxton struck the ball towards long on and the batters hustled home for two and with a slight misfield, made a mad dash for a third run, but the bowler grabbing the ball, refused to throw, but instead, ran up and removed the bails.

The Leewards fell short by just one run, in the heart-stuttering contest!
