Federal Cabinet Marks History and Heritage Month 2026 in Afro-Caribbean Attire

Members of the Federal Cabinet of Saint Kitts and Nevis proudly donned Afro-Caribbean attire today (February 9) to mark History and Heritage Month 2026—a time to honour our past, celebrate our culture, and educate future generations about the resilience and achievements of people of African descent across the Caribbean.

As part of the global African diaspora, our story is central not only to our national development but also to the shared progress of the world. This is reflected in the ongoing work under the CARICOM–Africa Partnership, which seeks to bring African nations, Caribbean states, and the wider diaspora closer together; strengthen solidarity; deepen integration; and jointly pursue reparations and reparatory justice through a comprehensive transcontinental framework.

Ambassadors Leon Natta-Nelson and Kenneth Douglas were invited to join the group photograph, reflecting a shared national commitment to celebrating and preserving the heritage of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

“In our nation, our memory is our mobilisation. As we mark History and Heritage Month 2026, we also recognise the courage of those who resisted oppression—including the heroes of the Buckley’s Uprising of 28 January 1935, whose struggle will now be honoured each year with a national holiday beginning in 2027. We remember to reclaim dignity, we remember to repair injustice, and we remember so that every child born on our shores may inherit a fairer, stronger Saint Kitts and Nevis.”
Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Terrance M. Drew
