GSS-2017 CHAMPS

By:Curtis Morton

There was a lot of pre-tournament chatter and both teams in the revived High Schools Basketball championship on Nevis, in the Charlestown Secondary School (CSS) and the Gingerland Secondary School (GSS), appeared confident of victory.

The GSS team blew away CSS in game one and the CSS team vowed to return the favour in game two.

On Monday 11th December, the two teams again faced off, but this time at the home court of the CSS team, at the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball Complex.

The CSS team was supported by a huge fan base and had  home court advantage in their favour.

They commenced the game with some intensity and put the first points on the board and dominated the early exchanges.

However, the GSS players soon found their footing and once they got their first set of points on the board, they were off and running.

As the first quarter closed out, they were trailing by a mere two points.

Into the second quarter, GSS edged into the lead and when the final whistle was blown, it was Coach Evroy Liburd and his team from Gingerland who were celebrating.

Final score: GSS 47 CSS 39

A brief presentation ceremony was held immediately after the game. Director of Sports, Mr. Jamir Claxton, officially handed over the winner’s trophy to the GSS team, as they would have won two games of the best of three series.
