Charlestown, Nevis, 2018- The Department of Agriculture hosted its 24th Annual Open Day today, Thursday, March 22, 2018. The event is being held under the patronage of Mr. Eugene Maynard, of Hanley’s Road, Gingerland.
The theme for this year is, “Building Resilience to Climate change for Food Security”; and the Mission Statement is, “To establish a professional business climate for the high quality provision of services to farmers and the general public towards sustainable agriculture development”.
The Venerable Dr. Alson B. H. Percival gave the invocation. Nayala Daniel sang the national anthem and Mr. Huey Sargeant, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, gave the opening remarks.
Other remarks came from Mr. Randy Elliot, Director of Agriculture, Mr. John King, IICA representative of the Eastern Caribbean States, H.E Chiou Gow-Wei, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Hon. Alexis Jeffers Minister of Agriculture.
Miss Shonell Christian, Miss Farm Queen 2014 presented awards to the many awardees. Mrs, Venelda Dore, gave the Vote of Thanks. The event continues tomorrow Friday, March 23, 2018.
