Inaugural Nevis Round the Island Relay Set For May

Local Triathlon and Cycling stars, Reginald REGGIE Douglas and James Weekes are currently involved in the hosting of a new and innovative event for Nevis. It is being referred to as the NEVIS ROUND THE ISLAND RELAY.

The event has been set for Monday 6th May, better known as LABOUR DAY-a public holiday on the island.

The two star athletes have indicated that this is one way that they will be able to give back to the Nevisian community for their exceptional assistance to them over the years. The funds generated from the event will be wholly donated to the Nevis Maternal Health fund.

They also indicated that the idea came about because of their extensive travels and observing what takes place in other countries. St.Maarten hosts a similar event.

The race will involve relay teams comprised of ten persons each, who will complete the estimated 19.5 miles throughout the entire island on the day of the event.

The established relay stations are as follows:
1. Commence at the ET Willet Park
2. Four Seasons Resort
3. In the vicinity of Coconut Grove (Cotton Ground)
4. In the vicinity of Rumours restaurant (New castle)
5 Pot works–In the vicinity of the Medical University
6 Just past the St.James’ Primary School
7 New River-close to the old Sugar Factory
8 Gingerland Health Center
9 Morning Star-close to Griffin’s Auto shop
10-climax at ET Willet Park

Back at the Park, the athletes will be able to partake of a grand buffet styled breakfast compliments of Bobby’s Restaurant.

Registration for the event is currently open and forms are available at Expetrol; Reliable Motors; Nevis Adventure tours; Reggie Douglas; James Weekes and the Nevis Tourism Authority. Each participant will pay $50.00 EC. However, Primary school teams are being specially invited to participate at a reduced cost of $25.00 EC per child. The deadline for registration is Friday 26th April and no registration will be permitted on the day of the event.

The two star athletes are inviting business places and sporting clubs along with other interested persons to register teams for the event. Trophies will be awarded to the outstanding performers and the overall winning team will be awarded a trip to St. Maarten (all ten persons) to participate in a similar event there, later in the year. However, that team must include at least two females.
