Seam bowler Akeem Jordan took three wickets in his first opportunity with the ball for West Indies while off-spinner Roston Chase also grabbed three wickets which helped the visitors to bowl out the South Africa Invitational XI in their tour match on Wednesday.

Jordan ended with 3-34 from 11.5 overs, Chase grabbed 3-98 from 19 overs, and fast bowler Shannon Gabriel took 2-45 from 10 overs as the Invitational XI were dismissed for 317 to close the second day of the three-day match. Wicket-keeper Joshua Da Silva had another good day in his preparation for the upcoming Test Series. He held five catches to follow up his stroke-filled knock of 54 not out on Tuesday as West Indies had declared overnight on 283-9 in their first innings.

On Wednesday, the CSA Invitational XI captain Wiaan Lubbe made the top score of 72 and Dewald Brevis added 50 as West Indies used all their bowlers and sent down 89.5 overs. Jordan displayed good control and his first wicket was Wandile Makewetu caught behind by keeper Da Silva for 12, as he pushed at a ball outside the off-stump. Jordan returned later and grabbed the last two wickets when he got Codi Yusuf taken behind again by Da Silva without scoring, and then had last man Thando Ntini, clean bowled for a “duck”.

The third and final day’s play is scheduled to start at 10 am (4 am Eastern Caribbean/3 am Jamaica). West Indies are using the match as part of their preparations for the two-Test series against South Africa, which starts on 28 February at SuperSports Park in Centurion.
