Kellian Hazel Sentenced for Causing Death by Careless Driving

Kellian Hazel of St. Paul’s, St. Kitts, has been sentenced for Causing Death by careless driving in an incident that resulted in the death of the late Keniqua David of Saddler’s, St. Kitts.

The incident occurred on August 27th, 2021. Having been indicted on the charge, Mr Hazel pleaded guilty and was sentenced on December 6th, 2023, by His Lordship Justice Iain Morley.

He received a six (6) month prison sentence that has been suspended for two (2) years providing he commits no legal infractions during that time.

He has also been disqualified from driving for two (2) years effective from December 6th 2023.

Mr Hazel has also been sentenced to pay a compensatory sum of one hundred and eighty thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars (EC $180,000) to the victim’s grandmother on behalf of Xhyionique Nicholas, her three (3)-year-old child.

Said payments are mandated to begin on January 1st, 2024, at the rate of five thousand Eastern Caribbean dollars (EC$5,000) per month throughout three (3) years.

In the event Mr Hazel defaults on the monthly payments, he will be imprisoned for twelve (12) months
