LEROY CHAPMAN SETS NEW CROSS COUNTRY RECORD

By:Curtis Morton

Tuesday 16th February was an exciting day at the Gingerland Secondary school. That was the day when the school held its annual cross country runs.
The junior athletes competed in the morning and the seniors did their runs in the afternoon.

The juniors started at the school and raced through Hard Times; past Willie Natta’s residence and down through Old Manor; then back to the school.
The seniors on the other hand, started at the school; went through Old Manor; completed the steep 16 acres incline; through Zetlands; back to the main road ; then back to the school.

The cheer leaders also were out in their numbers—not to mention colours.
The best run of the day, was completed by Leroy Chapman who indicated before the race that he intended to break the record..and he did.
He ran a very strategic race, not stopping at any point and raced into the school yard, well ahead of the second placer.

Schadona Liburd also completed an impressive run to take the senior girls’ segment.
