Malcolm Guishard Basketball League Dunks Off

The 2018 edition of the Malcolm Guishard Basketball league, officially dunked off at the Church Ground Basketball court, on the evening of Saturday 10th November.

The brief opening ceremony was ably chaired by the hard working President of the Nevis Amateur Basketball Association, Miss Wanda Parry, who gave the invocation and opening remarks.

Minister of Sports, Hon. Eric Evelyn, gave the feature address and noted that the tournament was in its 12th year and gave apologies for Premier and Area representative, Hon. Mark Brantley, who was off island on official business and who has been the tournament sponsor for the entire 12 years.

He lauded the efforts of Miss Parry and her executive and stated that other sporting associations on the island should take a page from the book of the Basketball Association.

He wished the players and the tournament well and admonished them to play hard but fair and to respect the officials and the other players.

He officially met with the competing teams and later declared the tournament open.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, two youth teams from opposite ends of the federation, faced off in an exhibition match.

ASC Jay Hawks of St. Kitts, engaged Dynamics G Starz out of Gingerland in Nevis.

The game was keenly contested up to the end of the first half, but inexplicably, the home team fell asleep in the second half and gave up the ghost to their Kittitian counterparts, for them to win quite comfortably in the end.
