MALCOLM GUISHARD BASKETBALL LEAGUE ON THE WAY

By:Curtis Morton

The 2015 annual Malcolm Guishard Basketball league, officially got underway on the evening of Sunday 1st November at the Church Ground hard court. The tournament which is in its 8th year, is held in honour of the late parliamentary representative for the area, Hon. Malcolm Guishard.

However, in more recent times, since the untimely passing of Mr. Guishard, the league has been faithfully sponsored by the current parliamentary representative, Hon. Mark Brantley.

Filling in for the honourable Minister of Sports, at the opening ceremony, was the Hon. Troy Liburd who noted that Mr. Guishard ‘cared for the people of Church Ground and so too does, Hon. Mark Brantley.’

He apologized for the absence of Minister Brantley and encouraged all of the teams to play hard but fair.
He also congratulated Miss Wanda Parry and the Church Ground Sports club for the

ensuring that the tournament continues each year, as he noted that it would keep the young and old guys meaningfully engaged and provide for excitement and entertainment for the sports loving public.

Miss Wanda Parry, who chaired the proceedings, warmly welcomed all of the teams and commenced with prayer, after which the national anthem was beautifully rendered by two of the youthful spectators.
Hon. Troy Liburd also officially met and inspected the teams and then declared the tournament officially opened.

The on court action commenced with two games.
