BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS — The St. Kitts–Nevis Labour Party Administration has taken decisive action to strengthen water resilience and reliability, to achieve near-universal, 24/7 water access by the end of 2026.

Expressing confidence that water security is increasingly becoming a reality, Prime Minister Hon. Dr Terrance M. Drew outlined the Government’s goals and expectations for 2026.

He noted that the desalination plant at Bird Rock is in the final stages of commissioning and is already delivering more than one million gallons of potable water per day, with capacity expected to increase to two million gallons daily. Communities in Basseterre, the Southeast, and Frigate Bay are already experiencing improvements in water supply.

At the same time, the national drilling programme has been mobilised, with equipment on the ground and operations set to expand across St. Kitts and Nevis.

Additionally, a recent semi-airborne drone survey conducted to identify new groundwater sources in St. Kitts has identified 17 potential sites, including areas in Cayon, Saddlers, Challengers, Molineux, St. Paul’s, and Old Road.

The identified sites include one in Cayon; two in Molineux; two in Tabernacle; one in Belle Vue; two in Saddlers; one between Parsons and Dieppe Bay; one in St. Paul’s; one in Newton Ground; three in Sandy Point; one in Stone Fort; one in Old Road; and one in Challengers.

Since taking office, Dr Drew, who is also the Parliamentary Representative for the Cayon area, has ensured that residents now enjoy a 24-hour water supply.
