PRIME MINISTER DR. TERRANCE DREW URGES YOUTH TO “DREAM BOLDLY AND LEAD POSITIVELY” ON INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – In observance of International Youth Day, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, the Hon. Dr. Terrance M. Drew, called on young people across the twin-island Federation to dream boldly, pursue continuous learning, and champion positive leadership within their communities.
International Youth Day 2026 highlights the shared aspirations of youth globally—ranging from dignity and quality education to decent work and a sustainable future—while addressing the unique realities faced by young people in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), including climate challenges, economic constraints, and digital inequality.
In a message commemorating the day, Prime Minister Drew commended the nation’s youth for their active role in national development.
“On International Youth Day, I celebrate the passion, creativity, and tremendous potential of our young people across St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Prime Minister Drew. “You are not only the leaders of tomorrow; you are already helping to shape our country today through your ideas, your talents, and your determination. Keep dreaming boldly. Keep learning. Keep leading positively, and never be afraid to take hold of the opportunities before you.”
The national observance coincided with Prime Minister Drew’s visit to the Sound Your Future Summer Camp, an initiative designed to engage youth in songwriting, spoken word, and music production. Speaking to participants, Dr Drew emphasised that the value of such programs extends well beyond creative arts.
“It is also about building confidence, encouraging teamwork, discovering talent, and helping our young people understand that their voices and choices matter,” Dr Drew noted. He urged the campers to cultivate self-reliance, discipline, and the courage to positively influence their peers.
Addressing broader societal challenges, the Prime Minister renewed his call for young citizens to make constructive life choices.
“I continue to encourage our young people to stay away from gangs, crime, and violence,” Dr Drew stated in a social media release. “There is so much more to life, and so much potential within each of you. Surround yourselves with people who encourage you to grow, dream bigger, and become the very best version of yourselves.”
Despite structural hurdles, youth in Small Island Developing States like St. Kitts and Nevis continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience, innovation, and leadership in advancing sustainable development throughout the region.
