PM ignores unsigned document, leaves door open to dialogue if signed

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 20TH 2015 (CUOPM) – The Federation’s Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas said Tuesday that an unsigned document circulating in relation to the recent Emergency Meeting of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly should be ignored but left the door open for dialogue if it is signed and circulated officially.

“Many of you may have seen a document currently circulating on the internet, purporting to be from various civic organizations in response last week’s parliamentary vote. The document has neither letterhead nor signatures and so I choose to ignore it – as should you,” said Prime Minister Douglas during his weekly live radio call-in programme “Ask the Prime Minister.”

“If any of the organizations listed did, indeed, authorize this, however, I invite them to indicate this by circulating an official and signed statement, on letterhead, and I would be more than pleased to engage them in discussion on this very important and long-overdue action, first by our Electoral Boundaries Commission, and then by our country’s National Assembly,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

He said he would also ask, as well, that these persons, at the same time share with their reaction to the talk of death and killing – on air – by Opposition candidates, funders, and supporters, and – most importantly – media outlets permitting these statements to be aired,” said Prime Minister Douglas.

He suggested the way forward toward elections, recognizing the importance of the Federal Parliament having fixed an aberration that had long – and urgently – needed to be fixed.
