**Basseterre, St. Kitts (PMO)** — Prime Minister Hon. Dr Terrance Drew has called for greater transparency in the legal proceedings involving the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis and its former CEO, Mr Len Harris. During the Round Table discussion on January 8, 2025, Prime Minister Drew emphasized the importance of public access to the case, which was initiated by Mr. Harris himself, rather than by the government.
“The people of St. Kitts and Nevis deserve to know the truth regarding what transpired at the Development Bank. Transparency and accountability are fundamental pillars of this administration, and I have asked the Attorney General to seek permission for cameras in the courtroom, allowing the public to see and hear the facts directly,” Dr. Drew stated.
The Prime Minister explained that the lawsuit was filed by Mr Harris against the Development Bank, prompting a response from the institution. He dismissed accusations of a government-led initiative or witch hunt, underscoring the importance of letting the legal process unfold. “This matter is about accountability and ensuring that our public institutions operate with the highest standards of governance and integrity.”
Dr. Drew’s call for courtroom cameras reflects his administration’s commitment to transparency in public affairs. He noted that this move would enable citizens to better understand the legal issues at hand and foster trust in the judicial process. “When the public has the opportunity to witness proceedings firsthand, it enhances trust in our institutions and ensures that justice is both done and seen to be done.”
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to highlight his government’s efforts to strengthen oversight and governance within public institutions, including the Development Bank. He emphasized that his administration is dedicated to addressing systemic issues and preventing similar controversies in the future. “Our focus is on managing public institutions responsibly and safeguarding the people’s resources,” he stated.
Moreover, Dr. Drew criticized the lack of transparency under the previous administration, pointing to a legacy of questionable practices that have eroded public trust. He assured citizens that his government is taking proactive steps to restore confidence in the Development Bank and other key institutions. “We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past. This administration is committed to building a culture of transparency, accountability, and good governance across the board.”
