Regional Security System Hosts Successful Community Policing Course with Regional Participation

**Basseterre, St. Kitts** – The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force proudly announces the successful participation of Sergeant Charmaine Audain (No. 67) and Woman Constable Kiesha Davis-Williams (No. 433) in the Community Policing Course hosted by the Regional Security System (RSS).

The comprehensive training program consisted of two phases: a virtual session from May 5 to 7, followed by face-to-face instruction from May 12 to 16, 2025, in Barbados. The course brought together police officers from St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Antigua, Grenada, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent, Guyana, and Barbados, promoting a collaborative and regional approach to modern community policing.

Facilitated by the dynamic Inspector Greaves, the course provided a wealth of knowledge through engaging experience-based teaching. Inspector Greaves’ approach combined practical policing strategies with personal stories, emphasising the need to adapt methods to fit the unique community structures of each country.

Participants explored a wide range of topics, including:
– The Historical Context of Policing
– The Five Core Components of Community Policing
– The Development of Modern Policing
– Professionalism, Morals, Integrity, and Good Character
– Domestic Violence and Community-Based Policing
– Ethics
– The Broken Windows Theory
– Distinction between Traditional and Community-Based Policing
– Community Engagement
– The SARA Problem-Solving Model
– Building Effective Partnerships

The training concluded on Friday, May 16, 2025, with a series of group exercises, where participants applied the SARA model to real-world policing scenarios. This reinforced their understanding through hands-on teamwork and practical problem-solving.

Reflecting on the experience, Sergeant Audain remarked, “This course has been an eye-opener for me. It reignited my passion for community work and reinforced my belief that true community policing is our weapon of peace.”

Constable Davis-Williams added, “The course has been incredibly informative and engaging. I plan to adapt many of the strategies shared by Inspector Greaves to strengthen community relationships within our own policing efforts in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force commends both officers for their dedication to professional development and is committed to further integrating community policing strategies across the Federation.
