Ms Meredith Amory-Field, Community Psychiatric Nurse Manager at the Mental Health Unit, revealed on Wednesday afternoon that a major sporting event will take place in Nevis on Thursday 15th October.
The breaking news is that the seniors on Nevis will be featuring in a fun sports and games day at the ET WILLET Park.
According to Ms Amory Field, seniors from across the island and also seniors from St.Kitts as well, are invited to participate.
The age range in focus on the big day, is 60 and over but there will be some exhibition races for persons aged between 50 to 60 years.
A planning committee has been put in place for the grand event, which comprises of representatives from the Mental Health Unit; The Red Cross Society; the Seniors’ division and the Youth and Sports Department.
The meet is the brain child of Ms Amory Field who indicated that she would have participated in similar events in Barbados, where she won a few gold medals.
The family members responsible for the seniors will have to sign a waiver agreement on registering them for the event. This will effectively indicate that the seniors will participate at their own risk and of their own free will.
However, there will be Medical Doctors, Nurses; the ambulance service and the Red cross on hand, in case there is an emergency.
Significantly, October is the month set aside especially for the elderly and it is also the month set aside to focus on persons with mental issues.
The seniors will be taking the event really seriously, as immediately after Culturama, the ‘athletes’ will report to the ET Willet Park for training and practice exercises with National Trainer, Masefield Nisbett.
Additionally on the big day, one of the big side acts will see ministers of government from St.Kitts and Nevis, facing off in short sprint events.
One such event is expected to feature Prime Minister Harris versus Premier Amory.
More information will be forthcoming as the weeks roll by but Ms Amory-Field is adamant that everyone should carefully mark the date on their calendars.
